Bargain basement sound of singles race bike

I have almost got the RD ready for utah and just started working on my second/ back up bike. I figure you gotta take two in case the first one breaks. i basically wanted a bike that all i would need to do is adjust the valves every other race and figured I could combine two bikes that I am pretty fond of. The first is an 86 gsxr 750 that after selling the motor and other assorted parts has me about 700 in the black. i had several DR650's over the years and this was one of my extra motors. i think i am into the car kit on it for 300 but, that was over 4 years ago. So i am starting this at plus 400 dollars at this point.
i chopped off the rear motor mount to make room for the dr lug and hogged out two of the front lower motor mounts for the dr bottom mounts and pushed it in. The motor fits well and the only difference is the sprocket is about a 1/4 inch forward compared to gsxr motor's sprocket the placement in all other areas is in there, so I think it should work fine. I called Rob North down in national city and he is gonna take it in next week for the motor mounts.
i will probably go as simple as i can on the motor(42 mikuni, high comp piston and that is it. i am gonna grind off most of the flywheel and run total loss. When all is said and done i think i will have less than a grand into it, including new conti cr attacks. Forks will stay stock, but freshened up and 1 am gonna shorten and rebuild a 1986 1100 shock I have laying around. new bearings and grease.
I am hoping about 340lb with fluids and about 50 hp

What ya fellas think???????????

Looks cool, Wonder want that would be like with a two stroke in that frame. I have a nice 400 just sitting around.

Ken, funny you should ask that....i have a 1987 GSXR1100 frame modified to take a Kaw 750H2 with a basket case motor in it currently. Free to a good home if anyone wants to take it on. clean title too. Just come and get it out of my barn....

I almost bought a set of lt500 quadzilla cases to see if it would work, but kinda chickened out. It would be mean though, and i bet you would end up at about 300 lbs as the 86/87 gsxrs were lightweights anyways.
Thanks Brian

I wish I could take you up on that Wes but Wisconsin is way up there and by the time I drove up there and back I could have bought one at a salvage yard here in Tennessee. Would be neat to see what class a person could run one in. Open two stroke? This 400 Yamaha single put out some major grunt in a flat tracker before the off track excursion that ended its life.

I was originally building it to run in WERA as a V5 or V6 bike back in 1995 or so but just never got around to doing anything with it. It would have been legal back then to the WERA rule book. Frame is rewelded to accept the H2 and get good exhaust port clearance, and actually has an engine bolted in, but never got farther than that. Not sure if it would fit into any current AHRMA classes, would have to do a little research...open two stroke maybe? More than likely it will be around next year when road america rolls around, so if anyone wants it save some space in the trailer!

Now you guys have got me thinking. This could be a bad thing. Hows your leg doing Wes and are you going to be at Barber? I'll be there going slow as usual, but having fun. Hope Greg H. makes it, it would be good to see him.
